Transition Week in Class 2

A warm welcome to the year 1 children who are joining us this week.  It is a great chance to meet the children and for them to meet us. 

Our team consists of:

Mrs. Shaw (Monday to Wednesday) class teacher

Miss. Wilkinson (Thursday  and Friday) class teacher

Mrs. Pearson (all week) HLTA

Mrs. Secouet (every morning) TA

We aim to make your child feel welcome and valued in all we do.  We expect them to uphold our school promises of having courage, being respectful and showing compassion.  Please don't hesitate to contact us/talk to us at the end of the day if you have any questions.

This week we have planned a special topic based around the book, 'Beegu'.  Beegu finds herself lost on planet Earth after her space ship crashes.  She wants to find friends and to find a way back to her family.  We will be exploring friendship and compassion through this story.

We began this morning by discovering the wreckage of the spaceship in the playground and finding Beegu in her space sleeping bag.  The children were instantly engaged and made suggestions as to what had happened and who the strange little creature was.  

Keep having a look at our pictures as we undertake trying to help Beegu find friendship on Earth and how to get back home to her family.

Morning Maths

We start each morning with a little maths. Using materials and equipment makes maths meaningful and fun.  It helps to develop conceptual learning.  

A selection of some fabulous home learning from this week! Some great multiplication and 3d shape work in Maths, descriptive writing in English and some fabulous work on Viking Long boats! Well done everyone!

Spellings

Practice a few everyday

• Use the weekly spelling lists.
• Use the year group common exception word lists.
• Read the words and check you understand the meaning of them.
• Notice any phonic patterns and spelling rules.
• Can you add any suffixes or prefixes?
• Write sentences using the words.
•  Cover, copy and check until you get them right.

Set up a reading journal

Grab yourself a little note book and try out these reading activities...

  • Draw 2 characters from the book and write speech bubbles with something they might say after the story has ended.
