Welcome to Class 4 - Mr Acaster - Year 6
Hello, and welcome to the Class 4 website page. Year 6 is the culmination of your time in primary school - a chance to show off your achievements, take part in lots of inter-school sports, lead activities for younger pupils and take on jobs around the school too. It's also a time when you prepare for moving onto secondary school. Oh yes... and SATs!
Our theme this term is Time Traveller, and what better period to examine than Ancient Rome! In English, we will be looking at the book The Thieves of Ostia by Caroline Lawrence, and follow the adventure of Flavia, Jonathan, Nubia and Lupus. Our Maths will start off by analysing Roman Numerals, before moving on to fractions for the rest of the term. Our Science topic is Evolution and Inheritance, which will be taught with some members of Class 3. Our topic work will cover a wide range, looking at the history of the Roman Empire, the geography of their conquests, and the ways the Romans expressed themselves through Art. We will also be doing some computing on rotation with art and music as well. RE will focus on advent for the lead up to Christmas.
Homework is set on Fridays and due the following Thursday so it can be marked. Homework usually consists of some Maths questions from the topic of the week, an English comprehension, and a set of 10 spellings. All homework and spellings for the term will be posted on this page. If you have any questions or wish to discuss anything please come and see me in Class 4.
Friday 8th November Homework:
Friday 8th November 2019
First of all, well done with all of your homework over the holidays; everyone produced some fantastic pieces of work. This week you have a few pieces: some Roman numerals maths questions, and a comprehension about the birth and creation of Rome. You are also receiving a new set of spellings this week and both groups will be receiving the same list as everyone needs to work on this rule! I will be putting the spellings for the term and each week’s homework on the website as well. Please make sure this is completed for Thursday 14th November.
