Lockdown Update Spring 2021
Hello everyone, I hope you are all feeling well rested after your Christmas break – I look forward to hearing more about what you got up to over the coming weeks. These are unusual times, and you are no doubt aware that the country has gone into a second lockdown. As a result of this, we are putting home learning provision back in place, the details of which you can find below. As always, please feel free to email me at email@example.com if you have any queries or concerns. I am always free to talk and help out where I can.
Best Wishes, Mr Acaster
The information below is a guide to home learning over the coming weeks. We are all learning as we go and endeavour to make learning as manageable as possible whilst also being meaningful for the children and helping them to make progress. Below you will find our expectations, but if there is anything we can do to make online learning easier then please email me at the email address listed above.
Each child is expected to complete the activities assigned by us in Seesaw. This will be a a Spelling activity, Mental Maths and an English/Maths activity (whichever isn't covered in the live lesson) plus an activity in another subject e.g. Topic/Science/R.E. They must also attend their daily live lesson on Teams at 9:00 am which will be on English/Maths depending on the day. You do not need to print activities, unless you wish to. Please complete the template or take a clear photo of the completed learning and upload it to Seesaw so that we can respond to your child's learning.
We will upload your child's activities to Seesaw and the class page the night before the day they are due to be completed. 5 activities will be uploaded in total: a Spelling activity, Mental Maths, English and Maths and another subject (depending on the day.) They will all be contained on one PowerPoint presentation. Your child will need to use a tablet/phone/laptop/PC to view the activities set and to use Teams during the live lesson. They will also need a pen/pencil and some paper (lined paper is best, if you have any, to help keep writing neat).
The following is only meant to be a suggested timetable for learning each day, indicating approximate times for each activity. The live lesson is the only fixed timing, the other activities can be completed when suits you and your family best.
8.45 – 9.00 Spelling/Mental Maths depending on the content of the live lesson
9.00 – 9.45 Live Lesson Maths/English
9.45 – 10:15 Break
10.15 – 10:30 Mental Maths/Spelling
10.30 – 11.30 Video Lesson Maths/English (whichever is not delivered in the live lesson)
11.30 -12.00 Physical PE Activity
12.00 – 1.00 Lunch
1.00 – 2.00 Other subject e.g. Topic/Science

Class 4 Live lessons will be at 9.00 am every day. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday the children will be taught Maths and Mr Acaster will teach an English live lesson on Tuesdays and Thursdays. We really feel that live lessons are so important for your child to interact with us, have more meaningful learning and also interact with their classmates. During the lesson the children will have time to complete work set. This enables them to ask any questions during the lesson rather than asking yourselves afterwards. We hope this will minimize confusion and keep learning easy to manage. Please see the document below for further information.
Smart Survey for Consent
Please see below a link to a Smart Survey that will take no longer than one minute to complete. The survey is in relation to consent for your child’s picture to be used on our social media platforms. I can confirm no names will ever be posted with a picture of a child. We will use it for celebration purposes. You have the right to withdraw this consent at any point and we will ask for an update on this consent every year.
I am aware some people didn't get the link by email, so I have posted it here for you to access. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
There is going to be a North Yorkshire Schools Sumdog Competition beginning on Friday 22nd January in which we would like the children to participate instead of their daily Mental Maths activity. Please contact me if you need a reminder of your child's log in. Thank you.
Using Seesaw for Home Learning
To use the 'Seesaw' app to submit and celebrate home learning you need a 'log in' which I will privately message on the Facebook group.
1. Go to https://web.seesaw.me on a computer. Or install the Seesaw Class iOS or Android app.
2. Tap/click “I’m a Student”.
3. Type in your Home Learning code into the ‘text code box’.
(You don’t use the email/password login)
4. Post to your journal, respond to activities, and view class announcements.
5. Remember, this code is like a password. Keep it safe!
Posts need to be reviewed by myself before they can be seen in the class journal
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
