Autumn 1 2020: Welcome Back!
Hello everyone, I hope you have all had a fantastic break and enjoyed whatever you have been up to! I am looking forward to seeing what you have all been up to over the holiday and getting started with Year 6. If you have anything you would like to share with me then please feel free to email me. I have set up some SeeSaw accounts for the new year and will be giving the details out at the start of the new term, but if you would like to get in touch before then then please feel free to send me an email. You can find my email at the bottom of the "Home Learning" word document.
This half term we are looking at the theme of "World Wonderer" which ties in a few different topics. We will be looking at everything to do with Volcanoes, which also ties in to our English book, The Firework Makers Daughter by Phillip Pullman. In Science we are looking at the life cycles of animals including humans, and in Maths we are starting with place value, the four operations and properties of number. We will also be taking extra time for PSHE and RE to help with the transition into Year 6.
I hope you enjoy the rest of your break!
Best Wishes, Mr Acaster

Collective Worship with Class 4
This week our collective worship was led by Mrs Whittaker, where the children had an opportunity to reflect on the connections they have made over the years, through family, friends and other experiences in their lives. We all added our names to the school reflection tree, to remind ourselves that even though we cant see the other parts of the school like we used to, we are still part of the same community.
Homework for Autumn 1
As a result of government guidance we have been recommended to send as little back home with your child as possible. In some cases, such as accident report forms, this is unavoidable. However, I would still like to set homework over the coming weeks. As a result, I have given each child a SeeSaw login. Every Friday, homework tasks will be uploaded to this class page for the children to work on over the week. They can then use SeeSaw from home to upload a picture of the tasks they have been working on that week, email a photo to me, or bring a physical copy if this would be easier.
Spellings will still be set for each week, but I will put a spelling menu on the class page for reference each term. Homework will be due on a Thursday to give me time to respond to everyone, and we will still be doing spelling tests will be on a Friday at the end of each week.
I hope this is able to suit everyone and keep us all safe during these times. However, if this is particularly difficult then please do not hesitate to get in touch and I will do what I can to help.
Best Wishes, Mr Acaster
Using Seesaw for Home Learning
To use the 'Seesaw' app to submit and celebrate home learning you need a 'log in' which I will privately message on the Facebook group.
1. Go to https://web.seesaw.me on a computer. Or install the Seesaw Class iOS or Android app.
2. Tap/click “I’m a Student”.
3. Type in your Home Learning code into the ‘text code box’.
(You don’t use the email/password login)
4. Post to your journal, respond to activities, and view class announcements.
5. Remember, this code is like a password. Keep it safe!
Posts need to be reviewed by myself before they can be seen in the class journal
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
