We pride ourselves in providing all the children in our school with lots of opportunity to take part in forest school sessions and outdoor learning. We aim to provide 10 consecutive forest school sessions every two years for each child, these sessions are led by our very own forest school teacher. We take 3 year groups every year to Kilburn Woods where they have opportunity for free play and also learn many new skills that can’t be learnt in the classroom. We also have a large school field and a fantastic local learning area. The teachers often take the learning outside as we see the local learning area as an additional classroom with many opportunities that will increase engagement. Opportunities like this help develop the holistic development of a child through:
Health and fitness – being active in an outdoor, natural environment
Increased emotional wellbeing – resilience, sense of achievement
Social development – communicating and negotiating with peers and adults to solve problems and share experiences Gaining knowledge and understanding – multi-sensory, real life learning
Individual learning – children learning at their own pace and following their own interests
