Journey through the Bible
For our worship this academic year, we are continuing our 'journey through the Bible' using the resources provided by York Diocese. Each half term we will focus on one line of The Lord's Prayer and use Bible stories and Christian examples to examine a related theme: Love, Justice - Service - Charity, Courage - Trust - Faith, Forgiveness & Mercy, and Peace & Hope. This half term our themes are
Collective Worship 19/1/22 Story of Zacchaeus - Courage to love the unloved and change and forgive
The Lord's Prayer is the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples, when they asked him how they should pray.
It was lovely to see lots of families at the Christingle Service at St. Mary's Church in Thirsk on Sunday 5th December. The children sang brilliantly!
At South Kilvington, we have strong links with Thirsk Parish. Members of the Thirsk Parish Team lead our worship weekly and we hold special seasonal services at St. Wilfrid's and St. Mary's churches throughout the year.
DROP IN FOR PARENTS
Rev Mary Rolls is running an informal drop-in session for parents and carers to meet and chat over a coffee at St Wilfrid's Church after the school run from 8.45-10.30pm. ALL WELCOME. Please see the poster on the school noticeboard or church porch for the next few dates - reminders will also be posted in the school's weekly newsletter.
Xplorers is a new after-school club set up by members of Thirsk Parish Team. It is held at St Wilfrid's Church in South Kilvington on Tuesdays and led by Rev Jill. The children have a snack and have fun learning more about Bible stories and characters and Christian values.
XPLORERS CLUB will start again in the new year.
OPEN THE BOOK
Open the book is a dramatic presentation of Bible stories acted out by a team of volunteers, following a script based on the Lion Storyteller Bible. Thirsk Parishes have formed a team to visit local schools and contribute to their programmes of Collective Worship. We are very pleased to welcome the team to South Kilvington each half term. So far they have presented stories from Genesis, the first book of the Bible: Creation, Adam & Eve, Noah and the Flood, and the story of Joseph.
ADVENT TRAIL December 2018
Mrs Collins and the worship team worked with Tracey Taylor at St Mary's Church to create an Advent Trail around the church in Thirsk. The worship team from Sutton-in-the-Forest CE Primary School came to try out the trail before each class visited the seven stations. There were opportunities to think about different aspects of advent and how it means different things to different people. The stations included learning about navigation, refugees, special gifts and the roles of different characters from the story of the birth of Jesus. The trail was open to the public over the weekend too.
Unfortunately not the ones with chocolate chips.
