Physical Activity
All children in Years 1-6 take part in 2 hours of PE each week which includes: a minimum of ten swimming lessons each year; gymnastics; games; athletics and dance. Further opportunities for physical activity are offered through the provision of games equipment at lunchtimes, access to an adventure trail at playtimes and a range of after-school clubs. Coaches from local sports clubs offer taster lessons in a range of sports during the school year. Each half term, all KS2 children compete in mixed-age teams in a challenge event - recent events have included an archery competition, hockey tournament and a traditional sports day. Children also take part in inter-school events organised by Thirsk Schools Sports Partnership.
Every child is offered the chance to take part in a residential visit to an outdoor education centre during Year 5 or 6. This provides a range of enjoyable and challenging outdoor and adventurous activities (OAA) alongside the development of personal and social skills with pupils form other local schools. During Year 3 or 4, children are also offered a full day at a local outdoor activity centre.
Our programme of physical activity has gained the Sainsbury's School Games GOLD award for five consecutive years, meaning that we now hold the prestigious PLATINUM award.
