SAINSBURY'S SCHOOL GAMES AWARD 2019 - OUR FIFTH CONSECUTIVE GOLD AWARD was achieved which meant we are now holders of the PLATINUM AWARD.
In addition to 2 regular PE lessons every week, all children in Years 1-6 were offered a course of ten swimming lessons and all classes had six weeks of football coaching with a specialist coach. In the Autumn term all classes enjoyed a taster Judo session and in the Spring term, each class took part in a dance workshop based on Where the Wild Things Are as part of World Book Day.
After-school sports clubs were offered in dance, introduction to martial arts, football, netball, cricket and multi-skills sessions.
Intra-school sports between our four house teams (Oak, Ash, Elm and Acacia) take place each half term. In the last school year they included competitions in tag rugby, dance, boccia and sports' day.
Teams are selected to take part in competitions to play against other schools in our local Thirsk cluster in netball, football, tag rugby, swimming, kwik cricket and kwiksticks hockey. Individuals complete in the KS1 Fun Run and the KS2 Cross-Country competitions. Last year we also took players to area events for Dodgeball, Tchoukball and a Panathlon (adapted multi-sports event). We progressed to the next round of the Year 3/4 cricket competition, won the small schools' swimming trophy, finished second in netball and the Panathlon, and had two pupils progress to the Cross Country finals. Children in Years 4-6 all attended a sports festival at Thirsk High School, taking part in nine different sports activities with children from other schools.
We look forward to another great year of sport starting in September!
