MORNING DROP - OFF
Children should arrive at school between 8.45 - 9.00am, and go straight into school, ready for registration & the first lesson at 9am. All classrooms are supervised from 8.45am. Please note there is no supervision before this time in school, or on the playground.
We encourage children to walk or cycle to school whenever possible, even if it is only for part of the journey. There is a cycle shelter at the side of the school near Class 3. Parents and carers who drive their children to school can use the drop-off zone outside the main gate, which is supervised by a member of staff between 8.45-9am. However, if you wish to bring your child into school in person, please park on the roadside beyond the school.
When the drop-off zone was set up in consultation with police and NYCC highways, the following protocol was agreed to maximise safety for everyone - please respect it.
DROP OFF ZONE PROCEDURE
Approach the school from the Thirsk direction ONLY
Pull in as far along as possible to allow room for cars arriving behind you.
Allow children to get out on the pavement side only – a member of staff will be there to greet them and assist if necessary from 08.45 am - 09.00 am
Move off as soon as it is safe to do so; indicating clearly.
If you need to call into school or speak to other parents, please do not use the drop off zone to park – move further down the road beyond the school to a suitable place.
The timetabled school day ends at 3.15pm. Parents and carers meet children directly from the school playground at 3.15pm. We ask those collecting to stand in the half of the playground nearest the road - this is so that teachers have a clear view and can see who is collecting each child before they are dismissed. Each class will be brought out of their own entrance by their classroom staff. Staff remain outside until all children have been collected.
If you have arranged for someone else to collect your child or you have been delayed, please phone the school office. Some of our older pupils walk home independently; please advise the school office in writing if you have made this arrangement with your child so that staff have clear instructions on who may leave the playground unattended.
If you have travelled to school by car, please consider our neighbours in the village when parking and return to move your car as soon as possible after collecting children.
When children are attending after-school clubs, the usual collection time is 4.15pm. The club leader will bring children onto the playground and wait until all have been collected. Please check the weekly newsletter & website homepage to note any exceptions to this timing and to check dates when clubs are running.
Some children attend 8.30am music lessons or study sessions by arrangement; please use the main entrance for these activities as classroom doors will not be open.
